Tommy Underhill TTCD, ASDI, ASDCS Adult ADHD & Adult Autism, Sex, communication, relationships

Most ADD/ADHD and autism professionals are neurotypical, focus on children and adolescents, and work from a deficit-based model. Tommy does it differently. Diagnosed for both ADHD and autism (AuDHD) later in life, he specializes in working with adults and executives with ADHD and autism from a strengths-based approach. Prior to owning and managing his publishing company for 22 years, he did not hold a job longer than two years. As a three-time college dropout, Tommy has a first-hand understanding of the challenges people with ADHD and autism face in the educational system and in the workplace. He finally found a university that works with the way his mind works and graduated with his bachelor’s degree in September, 2024.

Tommy is a Certified Autism-Informed Professional (ASDI) and Certified Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinical Specialist (ASDCS). His training in neurophysiological approaches for social, relational, and sexual issues, combined with a unique approach to dual diagnosis and comorbid symptomatology, provides the framework for coaching and counseling people across the country. His work doesn’t solely come out of a book— it’s drawn from multiple real lives.

Perhaps Tommy says it best: “As an ADHD and autism counselor and specialist, I have received many of the same clinical trainings and I do many of the same things a therapist does... predominantly from a functional basis. I’m here to teach you the tools to help you get results in your life in a world that was not made with you in mind. I work with most of my clients on the subjects of relationships, communication, intimacy, and sex. I’m here to help you learn how to communicate and see what others might think and feel.”

In the words of a client, “Working with you feels weirdly like home. I feel seen and understood.” Other clients tell him they feel heard.

Tommy is a Founding member of the International Association of Psychosexual Therapists and Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Psychosexual Therapy.

Tommy’s clinical training includes

  • 125+ hours in ADHD training
  • 90+ hours in Autism training
  • 200+ hours in IFS training, including IFS Circle
  • 100+ hours in sex and relationship counseling training
  • 100+ hours in trauma training
  • 20+ hours of anxiety training
  • 50+ hours in psychopharmacology and psychedelic-assisted treatment
  • 15+ hours of ethics training

The fields of adult ADHD and adult autism support are only now being realized as necessary and helpful. As with any emerging area of expertise, resources can be limited at times. Misdiagnosis and failure to diagnose can be due to existing misconceptions and prejudices about the conditions, and limited exposure and training on the part of medical and mental health providers, especially in the case when working with adults. Tommy works from a holistic and trauma-aware perspective with an eye towards the physiological and biomedical elements of autism and the brain-gut connection.

One of the major societal differences between working with children and adults with ADD/ADHD or autism involves the complexities of adult relationships. Working with the skilled family therapists and sex therapists at Littleton Couples Counseling, Tommy is able to create structures and schemas for achieving greater success with adult relationships. He also understands the demands and challenges high schoolers with ADD/ADHD face as they transition into adult life. Tommy provides the following services:

  • Online and in-person individual ADHD coaching, behavioral support, and executive function coaching.
  • Online and in-person couples ADHD relationship, communication, intimacy, and sex coaching.
  • Online and in-person individual autism coaching, behavioral support, and executive function coaching.
