Gratitude in Reverse
TL;DR
A short poem-like exercise. List everything that bothers you in one column. Then ask what each complaint is trying to tell you and write something you can be grateful for in the second column. Dog hair means you have a dog and a floor, and pain means you are alive.
This blog is rather simple.
It only contains a line or two.
If you are reading a therapy blog—
then something is bothering you.
My advice is rather simple
take a minute or two
catalogue all the complaints you have
and all that is bothering you.
Write them down in a column
and leave a second column blank.
Now my friends after you have written down all that is bothering you
close your eyes and ponder this
Every item on your list
has something special to say.
So ask yourself what the complaint
is wanting to say to you.
The challenge to this exercise
is every complaint on your list
has something for which you can express
a healing gratitude.
Well how can I be grateful
for dog hair on a dirty floor?
I might say to you that dog hair on a dirty floor
is a loud and clear indicator
that you have a dog, and a floor.
Mindset is everything.
How can I be grateful for pain?
Pain shouts you are alive!
Write the list my friends
and turn the many colors of your complaints
into a rainbow of gratitude.
Happy writing!
